Question One

            The First World War saw great commotion and chaos in the different participating nations. As a result, the end of the war was marked with a number of lessons that nations vowed to consider in case of a second war. One of the main lessons that Europeans learnt was to exhaust the use of diplomacy before resulting to war (Sondhaus 463). After peace was partially restored in Europe, it was evident that the amount of damage caused would have been averted only if the leaders had engaged in more talks and negotiations on how to improve the political realm. By developing trust and ensuring smooth communication among the national leaders, it was possible to attain better outcomes through diplomacy. War does not sanction any problem solving status but it alienates any possibility of agreement and understanding. If the war lasted a short time, then peace would be restored over a short time and the political scene rebuilt.

Question Two

            Europe being the main theatre of operation during the First World War was divided into four areas of operation (Sondhaus 333). The theatres include the Balkans Front, the Eastern Front, the Italian Front and the Western front of operation. These fronts operated differently depending on the type of resistance they faced. The Eastern front for instance used attempts of invasion and offensive measures that greatly assisted the Russians in gaining control. In addition to the methods they used, the front came up with territorial concessions that rendered their opponents defeated (Sondhaus 351). They signed a treaty with their opponents signifying defeat. War in the Italian Front was at the boarder owing to the violation of territory treaties that would signal peace. The Italians used trench warfare in the cold winter owing to their ability to withstand the harsh conditions.
