Part I Essay

                Diane Willow her piece Re-Inhabiting, through an interactive installation medium in 2007. The art piece focuses on relaying the symbiotic correlation between nature, human interaction and art (Dicke Wing of American Art). In a visual perspective, the piece displays a bunch of hanging rustling leaves and overlapping waves projected through a video screen. The screen represents a visual and auditory beginning to a reflective environment. Evident from this piece, new technology affects the elements used in installation by making it look real.

Part II Essay

Realistic Work

Kehinde Wiley work titled The Honorable Augustus Keppel was introduced to the exhibit in 2006. The medium for this piece is through oil on canvas with a provenance of private collection. The visual elements incorporated into the piece aim at fusing history and style in a contemporary form (Dicke Wing of American Art). The color tone used creates a dark contrast. The artist assigns a red color to the background shapes that represent the historic period. The pattern shows a sign of unification.

Abstract Work

Helen Frankenthaler is among the contributors to the Dayton Art Institute special exhibition. Her art piece titled Sea Change was painted in 1982. The medium used on the painting is an acrylic on unprimed canvas. The piece uses a soak strain technique to give it a less sharp effect (Dicke Wing of American Art). The visual effects seen in the piece uses colors and forms that float around the interior and exterior parts of the shallow surface. This subsequently provides for and denies space.

Albert Bierstadt Scene in Yosemite Valley

The piece by Albert Bierstadt relays a message about the pristine quality and the expansiveness of the American landscape. The piece was released in 1864 with oil on canvas medium (Dicke Wing of American Art). The shape of the landscape is rendered with a smooth surface to displays a romantic scene. The color in the art displays a sense of sunset where there is a calm feeling. Through this painting, the war torn Americans could learn that it is possible to restore peace and achieve calmness.

Childe Hassam, Early Morning Calm

Childe Hassam painted the piece Early Morning Calm in 1901. The medium used was that of oil on canvas (Dicke Wing of American Art). The piece used a transition of traditional to modern application of bright color in most of the single strokes to realize an image. The lighting and the color used in the piece is well represented as it transitions over the horizon. The division of the color and shapes captures a diverse space creating an impression of expansion.

Joan Mitchell’s Untitled

Untitled by Joan Mitchell is one of the pieces found in the Dayton Art Institute special exhibition. The piece dated 1961 was presented on an oil on canvas medium (Dicke Wing of American Art). The painting aimed at challenging traditional aspects of figure and ground. The artist embraced different elements of noise, energy and intensity to represent a modern life. Contrasting colors collide through a shatterproof system that provides for different experiences.

Chinese scrolls in the Dayton Art Institute Asian Wing

The piece Mt. Fiji at Musashi plain is one of the Chinese scrolls found in the Dayton Art Institute Asian Wing. The piece painted in 1962 shows a pair of six panel folding screens, ink and colors on a golden paper (Dicke Wing of American Art). The paintings show a systematic arrangement of autumn flowers and grass displaying the landscape floor. The scrolls are joined by bands colored mineral green and golden clouds showing an element of beauty.

Endless Energy for Limitless Living

Endless Energy for Limitless Living by Rockwell Kent was presented in 1945 painted on an oil on canvas medium (Dicke Wing of American Art). The image used represents signs of strength and domination. The yellow color illustrates the presence of lightning. The white shaped images create a cloud pattern in the piece. Combination of the shapes creates a locomotive like image.
