Conservatives and liberals form the main political factions in the United States. These two groups have always exhibited strong opinions on major topics such as political issues, economic decisions, social choices, and personal responsibility. Both conservatives and liberals desire the same public goods and services. Among other things, they both desire autonomy, access to opportunities for prosperity, alleviation of poverty, healthcare, and lower crime rates. The problem emerges in the best way to achieve these benefits. Liberals have a strong belief in the state’s ability to realize equal opportunities and equality for every citizen. Therefore, liberals would want the state government to have a significant contribution in the accessibility and affordability of higher education. They would expect the government to come up with a subsidy program that would slash down the expenses and low middle and low-income families to afford college. Liberals assume that the state is responsible for ensuring no American is in need.

Conversely, conservatives have a strong belief in individual responsibility. Therefore, they would prefer that the government limit its involvement in the running of higher education affairs. In its place, conservatives would allow the market forces to determine the accessibility and affordability. This would allow high class and a small section of upper middle-class families to access higher education. Conservatives are more concerned about how the government protects their power to make their decisions. Under their leadership, a massive number of financially underprivileged Americans would be unable to access higher education. This would have a significant effect on their career paths and economic well being in the future. Between the two factions, it is clear that there are differing motivations behind their choices. Conservatives prefer individual objectives while liberals prefer socialist objectives. Both choices have their setbacks.
