Digestive disease is a condition that is present in all societies around the world. Accordingly, many communities have developed their own ways of dealing with the condition. Like other societies and communities, the Chinese have their own way of dealing with digestive disease. However, Chinese cultural medicinal practices are unique in the way that they deal with various medical conditions. The Chinese have a holistic approach to health meaning that they treat the entire body when dealing with a specific condition. This holistic approach also combines the emotional and physical aspects of a person’s body within his or her treatment. Additionally, the Chinese believe that all organs inside the body have a specific emotional dimension. This holistic approach to healthcare applies in the treatment of all conditions including digestive disease (“Digestive Disorder”). Along with poor diet, the Chinese believe that digestive disease can also result from issues such as stress and poor eating habits.

Treatment options for digestive disease vary from the use of conventional methods such as herbs to unconventional solutions like acupuncture. The use of herbal medicine is one of the methods that the Chinese use when dealing with digestive disease. These herbs treat the condition in a number of ways. Some work by reducing the stress that causes digestive conditions. Others reinforce the immune system and help deal with bacterial infections that are causing problems. Chinese herbs can also deal with digestive disease by reducing the allergic sensitivity that a person has in their digestive tract (“Digestive Disorder”). Acupuncture is another treatment method that the Chinese use for digestive conditions. Acupuncture works by reliving stress and restoring balance in the digestive system. The treatment method is particularly effective when combined with others such as the administration of herbs (“Digestive Disorder”). However, it is possible to deal with digestive disease using only acupuncture.
