Total Quality Management

Introduction

Operations management is concerned with designing, overseeing and controlling the production process together with business operations as concerns goods production and service delivery. This ensures efficiency in use of fewer resources while meeting requirements of the customer without decrease in quality standards. During my term as an intern in the management office of an auto-parts store, I learnt on the value of using the total quality management technique in operations management. It entails ensuring an organizational climate, which improves delivery of high quality service and products to all-inclusive customers in a continuous process. All the members participate in the improvement of the process and culture. Total Quality Management offers customer satisfaction, which is ideal in long-term success.

Discussion

The management system uses data, strategy, and effective communication procedure to integrate discipline of high quality into activities and laid-down culture of an organization (Morfaw 9). One of the elements of the system is that the customer is the determinant of the quality level. The system focuses on the customer’s approval on whether the mechanisms put in place are worthwhile by judging the final product. The management process ensures that all employees participate under a common set of goals and objectives. Empowerment is fostered along with provision of a proper environment. Improvement efforts are coupled with work systems of high performance in the business operations.

One of the basic parts of the management method is process thinking. A process requires the internal and external input from suppliers and its subsequent transformation into outputs, which customers receive upon delivery. The outputs are also affected by the internal and external attributes. Monitoring of the defined process is paramount to reduce chances of unexpected variation. The management method uses an integrated system. An organization is reliant on separate functional specialties under departments. Morfaw (11) states that the focus of total control management is the interconnection of the different functions. Micro processes aggregate into the eventual business processes. This is vital for defining of the strategy that a particular organization requires. The performance is inclusive of all the stakeholders’ wishes.

The key element of the management process lies in effective communication. Motivation of all employees while maintaining morale is highly advised. The management is responsible for decision making after use of fact-based analysis and diagnosis. Data performance extracts are used to enable accuracy, allow prediction of future behaviors in performance from historical measures, and achieve consensus within the organization (Jauhari and Dutta 16). The major thrust within the management process is on continual improvement. It helps an organization be analytical of its stature and performance continuously, while encouraging creativity at all levels. The creativity in turn is responsible for establishment of better competitive and effective strategies. The stakeholders’ expectations are factored.

Conclusion

Total quality management is a top approach mechanism that enables an organization achieves long-term success by focusing on the customer satisfaction. All the members of the organization are involved in improving the processes, services, products and culture in which they operate in. strategy data is used in formulation of mechanisms that are vital in upgrading of the quality in goods and services ass required by the customers. Different departments in an organization operate in separate entities in a vertical structure. The management process targets the horizontal interconnections between the departments. This is enabled through effective communication and transfer of the set goals and objectives of the organization.
