The numbers of children born out of wedlock have increased dramatically within the past late decades of the twentieth century. This number of parents who are at risk and their children has been defined as fragile families given their susceptibility to experience behavioral problems as result of detachment between the spouses. In addition, instability as a result of lack of union between spouses may have profound psychological effects on children born from such families or unions. A majority of fragile formed as result of irresponsible sexual activity between two parties. Thus, providing solutions to fragile families would amount to encouragement of responsible sexual activity, especially among the young adults.

The article indicates that married mothers have relatively stable and higher income and health trajectories than the unmarried mothers who exhibit lower health and income trajectories. In addition, children born to unmarried mothers usually develop behavioral problems as a result of the relationships between their parents. Furthermore, the article indicates that children drawn from the fragile families or from unmarried parents, experience behavioral issues associated with social problems due to relatively low cognitive abilities.

Expansion of access to contraceptives as a means of encouraging responsible sexual behavior, the number of fragile families could be minimized greatly. In addition, education on marriage and responsible sexual behavior could enhance the conduct of individuals towards enhancing paternal involvement in fragile families. Such relieves financial, psychological and social pressure associated with single parenthood for fragile families and parents. Involvement of all parents towards the development of children conceived in extra martial affairs can enhance the behavioral outcomes for children born out such unions.
