The first chapter of the book, Assistive Technology in the Workplace, by Desleigh de Jonge, Marcia J. Scherer, and Sylvia Rodger provides an overview of the application of technology in the contemporary workplace. The respective chapter covers the changes that are taking place within the environment as an outcome of technological revolution. The inclination towards technological advancements across the global society has been emphasized by the implementation of computers across informal and formal contexts. In this respect, the present workplace possesses a set and structure that is significantly different from bureaucratic environments prior to the revolution of technology. Apart from the impact of technology on the workplace, the chapter restricts its focus to the implications that technology has imposed on persons living with physical impairments or disabilities (Jonge, Scherer, & Rodger, 2012). The consistent revolution in technology has resulted in various developments aimed at helping disabled individuals with their current physical incapacities in order to attain and maintain employment in the competitive workplace. The chapter also focuses on the laws that secure disabled persons in such environments such as the Americans with Disabilities Act as well as the problems that they encounter on a daily basis.

Chapter 2 of the respective book concentrates on the evaluation of developments surrounding models of assistive technology. While technology may be the preferred direction towards the assistance of disabled individuals, it is still imperative to focus on the right solution and alternative for persons with impairments in the workplace. For this chapter, the center of the discourse lies on the benefits that models provide towards the betterment of the situations that disabled persons encounter while working in a competitive environment. Accordingly, models offer a structure for thought and practice irrespective of whether they are theoretical or practical. In this respect, the chapter focuses on a range of particular Assistive Technology (AT) representations and mainstream models, which can aid service providers in comprehending the effect of technology on the individual in question. More specifically, the respective chapter concentrates on certain models such as the needs-oriented model, the rehabilitation model, the Matching Person and Technology (MPT) model and the Human Activity Assistive Technology (HAAT) model (Jonge, Scherer, & Rodger, 2012). Apart from a discussion of the main representations, the chapter also concentrates on other key models such as attribution representations and human-based design in relation to their implementation within environments that require the use of assistive technology.

Chapter 3 of the publication in question assesses the processes that can be implemented in the selection and utilization of technology from the perspective of the consumer. Even though it is important to assert the models and technologies that can be applied in respect to assistive technology for disabled persons, it is more imperative to consider the view of the consumer in respect to the form of assistive technology that he or she prefers. From the previous chapters, various models and technological advancements have been positioned as generically ideal for aiding disabled persons in respect to the workplace environment. However, the respective chapter reinforces the significance of assistive technology by establishing a discourse based on the preferences of a consumer (Jonge, Scherer, & Rodger, 2012). Indeed, the consumer is more aware of the model of assistive technology that he or she requires in relation to his or her needs and demands. At this point, the chapter establishes the need to consider the opinions of the client when it comes to acclimatizing towards the preferred model of assistive technology.
