Smoking Changed My Life

Apparently, most smokers understand the negative impacts associated with smoking though they tend to ignore such threats and progress with their habits. I believe that the experiences I have undergone while smoking have had a significant impact in my life and have driven me to change my behavior. Smoking is not only harmful to the smoker but also to the people around him/her and accompanied with a myriad of harmful effects associated with its use. Inhalation of carcinogens permeates the lungs and causes lung diseases such as cancer and emphysema and other side effects including rotting of teeth and aging quickly. It is also coupled with stroke, eye, heart, and bone diseases.

Previously, I used to smoke with my uncle. Our smoking habits had gone a little way overboard where he used to complete three packets while I completed a packet in a day. His constant reminder that I should quit the habit was ignored as I progressed with the routine. It was not until 2011 when I heeded to his advice. This decision was propelled by the unfortunate news that my uncle had been diagnosed with cancer, which arose from his smoking routine and he was thereafter hospitalized for about fifteen months. The grave situation made me quit smoking immediately and upon informing my uncle about the change in my behavior, he became elated. Having understood the side effects of smoking, my uncle and I decided to create awareness about the negative impacts associated with the habit once he was discharged from hospital. This was actualized through a team of six individuals together with other friends who went countrywide with the awareness program. This initiative was also funded by the government and became well known in my country. Smoking is one of the most terrible habits that one can subject to the self, which not only harms them but also those around them. I highly recommend that people should never smoke, and those who do should quit the practice.
