Six Styles of Love

Generally, love is thought to manifest in six distinct patterns. The first pattern is comprised of the three primary styles of love. In this context, the respective styles constitute eros, storge, and ludus. The Eros is characterized in respect to the passion and power it exudes on a sudden and drastic basis. The intensity of this form of love may occur in the form of sexual, intellectual, spiritual, or sentimental appeal. Unlike the Eros, the Storge is comfortable, calm, and tends to be exemplified in friendship. Furthermore, this form of love is based on compatibility and camaraderie. The last style of love involves the ludus, which mainly focuses on playful love in respect to the maneuvers, and challenges it exemplifies. The second pattern of love constitutes three secondary styles. These comprise the pragma, mania, and agape. In respect to these distinct forms of love, certain elements are conducive and satisfactory to enduring romantic relationships. These comprise the agape love, which occurs as a mix of storge and eros. The combination of both love styles among partners may result into romantic relationships. This is in respect to the way the disparities evident in each form of love complement one another. On one hand, the Eros is intense and passionate. Furthermore, it usually manifests itself in the form of sexual appeal as well as other similar factors. On the other hand, the storge style of love advocates for comfort in each other’s company. This is especially evidenced by the camaraderie exhibited among persons with a genuine form of friendship. In short, the combination of friendship and intense emotions facilitates the development of a love that can endure the test of time.
