Subject: Proposal for Water Project in Australia

Purpose

The purpose of the proposal is to highlight the different activities and plans that culminate in the provision of a permanent source of clean water. Tasmania is a very resourceful and vital region in Australia and therefore, it should be treated with the respect it deserves. However, it has a major disadvantage in that the region has a poor water distribution infrastructure mainly created by Murray Irrigation Limited. The positive news is that this situation can be rectified through an effective borehole drilling and water distribution. The current water shortage situation will be assessed and the necessary work will be initiated concerning the outcomes. Therefore, one of the key outcomes of the proposal bid is to secure adequate funding for the water distribution project.

Summary

The Water for Life project team has decided on a two-stage program that will concentrate on the seven major counties in the northern section of the region. This area is plagued by the following environmental and administrative challenges: poor road network, high levels of illiteracy and irregular terrain. The team members have cooperated and developed a six-month plan that will start this year. The initial phases of the plan will focus on the environmental evaluations within the northern region followed by the installation of water distribution pipes. The project will seek to improve on the infrastructure created by Murray Irrigation Limited.

Introduction

The Water for Life project is requesting for a $20,000 grant that can kick off the two-stage program outlined in the previous section. The whole project will take six months and has two stages. The location of the program is in seven selected counties in Tasmania, Australia (Pyers, 2007). This is the take off point for Water for Life and if all the plans are successful, more water distribution initiatives will be implemented in conjunction with Murray Irrigation Limited.

Proposed Tasks and Budget

Phase 1 involves data collection on the technical and environmental information within the selected regions. The outcomes of this stage will determine the direction for the second stage. Stage 2 involves laying down pipes and water pumps as well as drilling boreholes. The community will also be taught how to administer and maintain the water resources. The project will consume a maximum of approximately $19,500. The remaining funds will be returned to the donating entity. In conclusion, it is clear that the funds allocated for this project will be sufficient to deliver the set objectives of ensuring accessing to clean and safe drinking water for several Tasmanian communities.

Executive Summary

This proposal is designed to request funding from the campus administration for the purposes of establishing a water distribution for peasant farmers and communities in Australia. The project will involving acquiring and installing water treatment and distribution infrastructure as well as teaching the community how to maintain and administer the resources (Farmar-bowers, Millar, & Higgins, 2013). The following sections will address the rationale and plan of the project followed by the description of the services and equipment. The last paragraph will contain the justification for spending on the project.

Introduction

Tasmania is a large region and home to over 600,000 individuals. The government strives to ensure that it provides sufficient public good and services such as sanitation, security employment and food among others (Farmar-bowers et al., 2013). However, this endeavor has been greatly hampered by corruption, insufficient funds, and other obstacles. This document is proposing an installation of the water distribution infrastructure within seven selected counties based on the gravity of the situation. Based on direct observation and collection of secondary data, it is clear that the communities are in dire need of fresh water within an acceptable distance. The current state of the northern region is urgent (Pyers, 2007). Many of the households have to walk at least five kilometers daily to fetch unsanitary and insufficient water. Furthermore, most of the communities in the area are pastoralists and therefore, these limited water resources are shared by livestock (Farmar-bowers et al., 2013). The poor road network and insecurity serve to exacerbate the situation. The team believes that they have the accurate data and plan to implement change and alleviate poverty and suffering within the region. Through the Water for Life initiative, it is possible to increase mortality rate and reduce healthcare expenses.

Rationale and Plan

The intention of the project is to give the different Tasmanian communities the best opportunity to access clean and safe drinking water. Currently, the limited water resources are already overused. Furthermore, they are compromised by pollution and struggle for control. The communities will definitely benefit from the access to reliable and sufficient water resources. The project will install sophisticated water catchments facilities and eco-friendly water distribution systems that will benefit the environment in the long term. An overseas project such as this one will satisfy the institutions need to use their knowledge to alleviate poverty and suffering in needy communities.

Description of Services and Equipment

The Water for Life project has purchased reinforced plastic pipes that will be used to create the vast water distribution network across Tasmania. The project team also acquired high capacity water pumps capable of pumping up to nine gallons per minute (nine GPM). This advanced pump will be sufficient to cover the uneven terrain in Australia. A section of the funds will be used to recruit professional pipe fitters who can install the whole system across the selected counties. In each of the targeted areas, it will be necessary to construct a water purification and distribution system. This will include a large concrete tank for temporary water storage, water access units, and additional smaller pumps to maintain water pressure over hilly areas. The boreholes will be created by water well drilling rigs that will be rented from the local companies in Australia.

Technology Support

The water distribution project is monitored by hydrology specialists from several different campuses. Any problems that emerge from the drilling or laying of pipes will be taken up by the professionals who will accompany the team. A section of the funding allocated to the project ($6,000) will be set aside for future maintenance of the water project. It will be used to fix or replace the pumps, water pipes and other expenses.

Description of Organization

Murray Irrigation Limited is the single most influential company within Australia that has managed to implement tangible water catchments and distribution networks. This company has worked in the country for over two decades offering irrigation services, advice, and equipment to farmers. Since it was founded in 1995, Murray Irrigation has acquired over 1,200 agricultural-based business and water supply and trade. The company serves both retail and corporate clients.

One can argue that companies such as Murray Irrigation are already established in the region. However, it is important to note that the Water for Life project is no motivated by financial gain. Therefore, the services that the project will offer shall directly benefit the society. The generous donation will go towards alleviating the poverty levels among the peasant farmers in rural Australia.

Conclusion

The Water for Life project alongside Murray Irrigation Limited is honored at the opportunity to present this proposal to the campus. The proposal directly benefits the needy citizens residing within the hardship areas in Australia as well as the neighboring communities. The project team strongly believes that this proposal would appropriately meet the spirit of the campus of implementing our knowledge to solve practical challenges such as inaccessibility to safe drinking water (Richter, 2014).
