Proposal for Mechanical Engineering Degree Plan and Its Obstacles

Purpose

The primary aim and task of this proposal is to understand the quality and planning of the Mechanical Engineering program at the institution and the inherent challenges faced by students as well as professionals in delivering skills and knowledge to the students. Furthermore, the proposed research will be bale to deliver findings on the appropriateness of the degree plan being used within the institution. It is expected that the findings will contribute towards improving the delivery of the education program and improving educational experiences of the students for higher levels of outcomes amongst the student population within the institution.

Summary

It is assumed that a significant number of students within the mechanical engineering program are faced with numerous challenges in regard to planning their studies as a result of a presumed inflexible degree plan. In addition, is anticipated that enhancing the degree plan in terms of arrangement of modules and courses would improve the success rate amongst students in regard to completion of the program. Furthermore, a significant number of students experience similar challenges in terms of completion of the program within the stipulated time, which points towards the inappropriateness of the degree plan and arrangement of courses.

It is important to note that mechanical engineering is a relatively complex and challenging degree program that demands the need for appropriate planning and scheduling by professionals and students as well. There is a need to take into consideration the expectations and views of the students so as to deliver an appropriate program that is centered on imparting skills and knowledge to the benefit of the students upon completion. The challenges faced by students in terms of balancing between difficult modules and personal activities should be taken into consideration as a means of ensuring that students are provided with opportunities to seek assistance from colleagues and professionals within the educational setting.

A high rates of successful completion of the mechanical engineering program would be essential in ensuring that the students are able to explore new life opportunities through skills and knowledge passed on through the degree program. Hence planning of the program is critical towards ensuring equal opportunity and high success rates of completion as it ensures that the courses are taught in an appropriate and timely manner that conforms with student needs and expectations.

Introduction

A mechanical engineering degree plan will ensure that students at the institution are able to gain knowledge and skills from a variety of experts within the field as well as numerous opportunities such as externships, internships, studying abroad, service learning projects, undergraduate research and scholarships (Sarker, Davis and Tiropanis 29). Such experiences remain critical towards reinforcing the education that students receiving within the institution’s engineering curriculum. Engineering students usually take a number of courses while fitting them within a four year period which remains a critical challenge.

Mechanical engineers are tasked with optimal utilization of time, matuierals energy and individual effort to provide services to society by designing structures, machinery an devices that improve the quality of life. Thus, in appropriate and ineffective planning of the program would be an impediment towards optimal contribution to the provision of societal needs by the students who will likely become engineering professionals in the near future. Such is illustrative of the critical need of ensuring that the program delivers on its promise of conversion of students into mechanical engineering professionals.

Method

The research paper seeks to understand the appropriateness of the Mechanical Engineering degree plan and the associated challenges that are faced by students towards completion of the degree program. The proposed research will take into consideration the use of both secondary and primary research strategies as a means of gaining information on obstacles and succinctness of the program. This research will rely extensively on both field research and interviews as a means of gaining new insights on issues affecting the successful completion of the program amongst students (Sarker, Davis and Tiropanis 27). In addition, such avenues will provide first hand information on the quality levels of the program. A significant number of meetings and interviews will be conducted to ensure that the optimal numbers of participants are involved in delivering appropriate solutions towards developing an effective degree plan.

  1. Interviews

Interviews will be carried out with the focus being on students and other professionals so as to understand the various issues and challenges inherent in the mechanical engineering program.

  1. Field Research

Field research will explore other institutions of higher education offering mechanical engineering programs to understand the structuring of the program and obstacles faced by such universities. In addition, it will also include research on professionals who have successfully completed the program to gain insights into strategies for successful development of a plan for the program.
