Pipeline Transport

Gases and liquids are transported through the pipeline provided they chemically stable. Pipelines primarily exist for the transportation of water, crude oil and refined fuels such as bio-fuels and natural gas. Pipeline transport also connects the sewer system. Advantages of pipeline transport include its reliability. A well connected pipeline system is very convenient because it is free from the inconveniences that are associated with other means. For example, it is not affected by harsh weather conditions. Pipeline transport is also cheaper compared to the other means of transportation. Pipeline transport ensures that remote areas that are not well connected by road have a steady supply of materials. Underground piping allows land to be put to other uses such as agriculture this is also an advantage (Bushu 2016). Disadvantages of pipe transport include the fact that areas that pipes pass through are not cordoned off meaning that the risk of pipes getting damaged is there. This fact opens up to other disadvantages such as illegal pilferage of products being moved (Bushu 2016). Petroleum leaks are also very disastrous to the environment because it is very difficult to detect.

The mission statements of Driver Pipeline Company, Superior Pipeline Company and Plains All American Pipeline all point to companies that are geared towards customer satisfaction. The main emphasis on the three mission statements is to entice customers with the perspective of offering innovative, responsive and value added services. A comparison of the companies through the vision statement does not give any distinguishable attribute.  None of the companies have included environmental consideration as part of their mission statement. Environmental degradation being one of the main disadvantages of pipeline transport should be given some consideration by these companies in their mission statements. These would have been a key factor in distinguishing these companies.
