Persuasive Speech

The United States is billed as a country built by immigrants. Accordingly, the Hispanics make a sizeable portion of this demographic. In particular, they occupy vast parts of California and Florida whereby they have integrated with the local communities through intermarriages while still keeping some of their original cultural parties. As any other American, they are exposed to similar socioeconomic challenges such as lack of employment and the need for better living conditions. However, their greatest hurdle is the racist phenomenon that has engulfed the country fro a very long time. Discrimination against the Latino community is hurting integration efforts and ruining communities.

According to surveys, more than 61% of Hispanics face prejudicial treatment in neighborhoods, public places, as well as employment centers. Such behavior can be attributed to the dislike for this group by other ethnicities who exhibit Hispanophobia. For example, cases of eugenics have been reported in different precincts in which individuals seek to eliminate the presence of the former from the society in search of enhancing a better human gene (Corlett 120). Such developments have resulted in the common attacks on Latinos especially in areas where some ethnic nationalities are dominant. Under these circumstances, Latinos are afraid to venture into certain areas within the country despite the constitution guaranteeing them the right to do so. They are singled out and assaulted in full view of other people without intervention.

Similarly, Hispanics are taunted and ridiculed in academic institutions as well as other centers by their peers. Most of them are called nasty words that refer to their physical appearances. By so doing, they emotionally hurt the victims who end up developing low self-esteem and a desire to be introverts. In fact, some adopt depressive tendencies thereby carving lonely figures, which isolate them from other members of the public. In such moments, they are filled with rage and hate for others and themselves too. Consequently, they harbor suicidal tendencies whose results cause pain and anguish to their loved ones especially when it occurs among the young. The sight of weeping individuals at various funerals for Latino victims felled by racist attacks is touching and can make one teary too.

Likewise, unfair access to employment opportunities has become the norm thereby subjecting Latinos to long periods of unemployment. Furthermore, it is insulting for members of this community to receive extra scrutiny during vetting sessions especially when the line of questioning becomes personal (Fraga and Garcia 71). In such forums, the experiences are bound to discourage participants from making similar forays thereby relying on forming their own outfits in order to cater to their needs. Accordingly, the feeling of rejection expressed in these forums provides the victims with the impetus to launch retaliatory actions aimed at showing revenge to the system. By joining criminal organizations in search of a source of income, these individuals are products of their environments and are a restatement to the lack of social cohesion due to racism.

Moreover, racism is viewed as the excuse used to deny Hispanics the right to contribute to the development of various sections of public service. In most communal events, Latinos are shunned as incompetent individuals without the experience to manage public utilities or understand the complexities of management. In most instances, such notions are bandied based on the latter’s origins such as Mexico where the average literacy rate is lower than that in the US. Such historical connections and apparent aloofness among them is used against them in order to block them from participating in public issues as well as offering alternative ideas (Chavez 103). By so doing, some members of this community resolve to engage in illegal businesses, which counter the official ones by blocking the transfer of taxes. In addition, most Latino’s are forced to detach themselves from the occurrences of public officials. However, such reactions are detrimental to their plight because their issues receive minimal attention. In fact, these developments lead to further subdivision of county, state, and federal areas, which alienate the rest of the population and breeds suspicion.

In conclusion, the Hispanic community has expanded within various jurisdictions and spread across the country. As a part of a metropolitan society, the US has facilitated the collision of divergent cultures as well. Nevertheless, systemic discrimination of Latinos has become rampant thereby threatening the fabric of the society. In particular, their denial to equal access to infrastructural developments, public utilities, and even xenophobic tendencies has greatly affected their relationship with other communities because they are treated as outsiders. Such a widening rift among ethnicities in close proximity has deepened mistrust among them and influenced the rise of anti-Semitism in many states. Whereas having their quest for an inclusive society diminished, the prejudicial behavior that negatively targets them is responsible for the numerous confrontations hence derailing social integration. Accordingly, this development has negated the original objective of immigrant families for building a perfect union. Therefore, the mistreatment of Hispanics based on their ethnicity has sowed harmful relations among communities and enhanced evil.
