Personal Guidelines to Success

Success may be referred to as the attainment of a certain objective or goal. A goal that was desired, planned for, or tasked. Every person has his/her own definition of success as individuals have their own personal goals. Success can be seen in different forms. Some people evaluate success in terms of wealth in material possession; others equate success in terms of emotional stability in the form of family while other people equate it spiritually. As a student, I equate success in my completion in the field of academia and moving on to a fulfilling career. To attain this goal, various tools and practices have to be implemented. This essay will highlight the steps that I will take to attain my success. My aim is to finish school with an impressive score and to enter into a super career.

The first tool that I will apply to assist to attain my goal is time management. Time management is a planned activity or process that stresses control on the duration taken on a specific task or activity. The main aim of time management is to facilitate increment of productivity, efficiency and precision. To implement time management, I will have to use special time paradigms such as timetables, alarms and time schedules. Each activity will specifically be assigned a certain amount of time depending on its nature, size and complexity. The higher the degree of complexity an activity needs the more the amount of time it will be assigned. Activities will also be listed in accordance to priority. Activities that are more important will be carried out first. Time management will assist in maximizing the output of an activity within a stipulated time margin. Time management is a journey that occurs day in day out. Weekly reviews have to be done to show progress and completion of tasks.

Another tool I will use is the “POSEC” practice that highlights the need to prioritize my own individual needs before checking in with other people’s needs. To participate effectively in other people’s needs, I need to have my own activities sort out. POSEC stands for prioritize, organize, streamline, economize and contribute. All activities that will lead to my goal will be prioritized under the basis of importance, like to do lists. Organization of all the resources required to carry out the activities will be done. Streamlining of activities that must be done but are incoherent with my goal such as housework will follow. The fourth stage which is removal of tasks that are not necessary (economize) will follow, then contribution to social responsibilities that will add value to my goal will come last. This five step plan will go along way to assist me attain my goal.

I may apply all the above techniques to attain success but all of them would be irrelevant without discipline. If I do not make a point to adhere to assigned time margins in performing certain tasks, I will not attain success. Discipline is a commitment to a certain course of activities that lead to attainment of a goal. It involves willpower and an attitude change in an individual to assist in the approach of day-to-day endeavors. Self-discipline to be able to ascertain what is right to what is wrong. Time management and discipline will be the major tools that I will implement to attain my goals, slowly on a day-to-day basis until I reach my desired point in life.
