Management

A manager is a person in charge of a company or business who controls and oversees the activities conducted in the company. For a company to be successful, it needs a competent manager, one who knows how to deal with those below his or her rank. If employees feel dissatisfied because of the management, productivity is affected. It may result in employee tardiness, calling in sick all the time, go-slows or strikes. No manager would want that in his or her company. Hence, a healthy relationship between the workers and the management needs to be created. That way, both sides end up satisfied and in a conducive working environment.
I would like to be a democratic manager. This way, decision-making will not be entirely my own. Those below me will also input their suggestions for the betterment of the company or business. The workers will feel a lot more significant to the business and hence add their enthusiasm to work. In addition, it enhances the relationship between workers. Through the group forum, they get to discuss and share ideas among themselves and get to know each other better. The good relationship between them helps business run smoothly and without wrangles. I will also get to know the workers better through these forums (Morden, 2004).

In this management style, the majority of votes determine decision-making. However, some employees may not understand a particular subject and vote blindly. This may lead to a decision that is not in the best interest of the company being implemented. To avoid such a scenario, I will have to weigh the matter, regardless of the majority vote, and make a decision that I think best suits the company. Being a mother, I have firsthand experience in this. At times, children ask for things that you have to deny them, this being for their own good. They may not like it, but will come to understand the decision later.

I believe that I have what it takes to run a company. I have a high level of determination. No obstacle could deter me from achieving what I have set out to accomplish. Running a company or business has its setback. However, it is the resilience in a person that determines whether they will be strong enough to endure the situation. I also possess excellent communication skills. This will help me deal with those around me more effectively and efficiently. I would deal with employees with respect, regardless of their ranks. Looking down on them only demoralizes them and makes them feel inferior. They may end up leading them to quit their positions or lessen their moral.

A leader must be self-confident. For others to believe in me, I will have to believe in myself first. No employee wants to work for a manager who is not sure about him/herself. How then would the company run? If I make a wrong decision, I will take full responsibility. Blaming others for self-made mistakes is not the quality of a good manager. I plan to account for the bad decisions I make, and not to throw the blame on those below me. Confidence in employees is essential is the running of a company or business. Inspiring this in them is of the essence. A worker needs to feel free to suggest or offer input without feeling intimidated, or that the decision will be not be considered. An I.T technician tends to know more in that field than a manager does (Morden, 2004).

Suggestions coming from an engineering professional, for instance, on how to handle certain issues in the field may prove beneficial to the company. An autocratic manager may not implement it, thinking he knows better. The technician will end up feeling insignificant, and he or she might never share any input in the future. A company like this will have workers sticking to what they are ordered or told, nothing more. It will never grow. On the contrary, a democratic manager helps the workers see the value in themselves.
