Issues with illegal Latino Immigrants

Topic: Workplace Violence and Racial Discrimination

Specific Purpose: To point out the issues faced by illegal immigrations in term of Latinos in America due to fear of deporting them

• Workplace violations and racial discrimination has become a global issue and the most relevant example is the Latinos in America who have suffered these issues due to illegal immigration. According to the recent census report, there are over 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States. 57 % of them originate from Mexico.
• The fear is the major reason why the Latinos are suffering for workplace violation, robbery and discrimination, as they do not want to involve law enforcement agencies, as they believe that they or their family members will be deported due to their illegal immigration. Precisely, over 50% of illegal immigrants are victims of robberies in various parts of the country. They are targeted due to their vulnerability yet that is illegal under existing laws.
• The employers are also taking advantages of the fear and they are offering lower wages for Latinos. The work is there for Latinos but they are facing in term of the implementations of laws for them as their entity in the country is not legal and employer takes advantages of that. In particular, research has indicated that there is a more than 50% chance for employers to hire illegal immigrants due to the low wages that would be paid to them. Thus, it makes business sense as that would minimize company expenses thereby increasing profitabilit

There is a lot of ambiguity for law enforcement agencies and Latinos as Latinos are not willing to report any incident related to violence, robbery or discrimination and law enforcement agencies are active to take actions on the reports again Latinos by Employers without having full side of the story. It is creating inequality in the society with 73% of them living with anxiety over their status. It is something that preoccupies their minds and distracts them from being active participants in nation building.

• Implementation of laws equally for any residence while living legally or illegally in the country is important as it helps law enforcement agencies to control violence and other issues with authority and control.
• Specific steps are required to provide legal identity to the illegal immigrants to solve the issues of violence at the workplace, robbery, low wage rates and discrimination. Providing legal identity will help in fulfilling the gap between required labor and actual labor in the country along with solving the violence issues in which victims are Latinos in majority of the time and they even do not report due to fear. Whereas 21% cite skin color as a reason to blame for their lack of reporting such cases to the relevant authorities, 36% support their motives with their immigration status. Furthermore, 20% link that fear to their poor language skills and 17% list education levels and income as well. However, 68% say that they do not know of an immediate relative who has been deported especially in the recent 12-month period.
• The underpayment laws should have full effect without knowing the identity of the complainer, as it will help in dealing the issue with required level without targeting the irrelevant issues. Such a measure would change their work ethic, increase commitment to the various assigned tasks and act as role models to those without jobs. In fact, a reduction of the current 11.5% unemployment rate would be experienced and this boosts the performance of the national economy.

The issue is due to the fear, which Latinos are facing in America and this fear can be overcome if the law enforcement agencies make it sure that the law is equal for everyone. It will help in decreasing the fear of Latinos, as the employer will have the less courage to report against Latinos, as they will know that the investigation will be not limited to specific Latinos, as it will affect the employers as well due to minimum wage law in the country. The other thing to require is to provide a legal right to Latinos as the labor requirements of America is high and Latinos can help in filling the gap between required and actual labor in America. However, despite their desire to seek gainful employment, 22% of Latino workers suffer workplace discrimination, which affects their productivity. In most cases, this scenario causes redundancies and duplication of roles resulting in slow growth of jobs. Consequently, there is a skewed advancement in careers as members of this ethnic community become sidelined in the different sectors of the economy.
