Part A

1. Why should I hire you?

I believe that I offer the best there is in the market. I have the qualifications required to do the job, and I am a person of integrity. I work with diligence, and I ensure that I meet deadlines. You will get an employee who understands his job well and is passionate about what he does. I am self-motivated and I understand the responsibilities assigned to me.

2. Why are you applying for this position?

I believe that I have the required skills and qualifications. I have read all the job details, and I believe that I am in a position to manage all the responsibilities and duties. I will be able to offer my expertise and contribute to achieving the objectives of the organization. The position has many responsibilities, which I believe will help me to develop as a programmer. The job is challenging and it will help me expand my knowledge and experience.

3. How are you qualified for this position?

I have attained the academic qualifications required, having attained first class honors in information technology. Other than that, I have had some experience, dealing with different IT issues including programming and coding and systems analysis and design. During my internship, I undertook different responsibilities, which ranged from being a database administrator to a web developer. However, my specialty is in programming, and I have been able to develop workable programs in the past.

4. Why are you interested in working for our firm?

I have always admired this company since it began seven years ago. I have followed it in its development, often reading news articles about it. I like its dynamism. The fact that it encourages innovation and change is a major attraction for me. Although the company is relatively young, it has managed to make positive contribution in the field of information and technology because of the applications it has developed. I also like the fact that the company gives the employees freedom to work on individual assignments and it provides every person the opportunity for growth.

5. What can you contribute to this company?

I will add value to the organization by enabling it to meet its objectives. I will share my knowledge and expertise to the organization, which I believe will enable it to gain more recognition and be the market leader.

6. What are your short-term goals?

My immediate goals are to learn as much as I can about the company and the position I hold in it. I plan to improve the skills and knowledge to the extent that I will make a positive contribution to the company.

7. What are your long-term goals?

My long-term goals are to have made a significant change in the organization through sharing my knowledge and coming up with innovative products to the extent that I will be in a higher position than I was when I joined the company.

Part B

1. Tell me about a difficult situation you dealt with when supervising others. What did you do, and what were the results?

I once dealt with a difficult employee. She was older than I was and she felt that she did not have to do what I requested of her. This made my work more difficult and I felt that other employees would follow her lead. I called her to my office one day after she had disregarded my directives. I notified her that I was not pleased with her actions. I told her that I was aware of the level of experience she had and the contributions she made to the company. I informed her that she had to change the way she reacted towards me when other employees were present and that she had to follow my directives.

2. Describe a time when you had to use your best oral communication skills. What was the situation, and what was the outcome?

I had to make a presentation at the end of my internship. A colleague had informed me that the management used that chance to write recommendation letters, and that they would even consider giving me an opportunity to work for them If I made a good impression. I was to make a presentation on how the organization could improve its operations efficiency in the department where I was working. My supervisor gave me one week to work on the presentation and it was a success. I was glad to learn that the management had considered some of the suggestions I had proposed.

3. Describe a time when you had to adjust to change. How did you cope?

After working for some time in my first job, I was told that I had to work as a database administrator for one month, as the person holding the position had to take urgent leave. It was difficult in the beginning and I took a lot of time before completing a task. This happened for the first few days. However I continued gaining an understanding of my duties the more I held the position. By the end of two weeks, I was able to handle many responsibilities on time and without asking for anyone’s help.
