Negative land use has been on the increase in the past century to alarming levels. Such an aspect of man’s activities on the biophysical dimension of the environment has caused anthropogenic effects to the natural surroundings. With continued increase in the levels of man’s activities, serious issues on the environment are bound to cause potential harm to all the life forms in nature. This is according to their existence, adaptation, diversity, and successive regeneration. The modification and management of the natural environment result in settlements through arable land, pastures, and managed woodland. Some of the effects already established with harmful land use include desertification, climate change, and loss of biodiversity and this should be reversed.

Desertification forms part of land degradation whereby the dry lands get to become arider while arable land is converted into settlements or replaced by deserts. It is caused by immediate removal of the covering vegetation. The main factors behind its occurrence are witnessed through combinations of climatic shifts, overgrazing, drought and deforestation for construction materials and fuel. With the advent of deforestation, the rate of runoff from the surfaces and erosion increases with decreased vegetation cover in an exponential manner. The resultant surface and soil layer left bare becomes unproductive. The common and notable inhabitants of the majority dry lands are established in the developing nations. They are compounded by factors like social and economic hardships.

Climate change is the alteration of the statistical pattern distributions of the weather over a measured period. Extreme conditions and severe and long-term variations are realized throughout. The common causes are diverse from the biotic processes, solar radiation, variation, plate tectonics, and eruptions from volcanoes. The directive cause attributed to man’s activities in the climatic change is witnessed through global warming. The accumulation of greenhouses due to increased human activities on the environment has significantly led to rising temperatures of the earth’s atmosphere. The sea levels have increased while the amounts of precipitation have been altered. The deserts in the subtropics have been expanded while heat waves, heavy snowfall, and droughts have increased.

Biodiversity is caused by the human activities that increase levels of extinctions in various live forms that occur naturally in the environment. Some of the effects attributed to this phenomenon stem from global warming among human’s depilation on land use to affect the ecosystems. The manner of adaptations in a natural enhancement leads to the loss of live forms and successive regenerations ability. Some of the activities include poaching, overfishing, desertification by land clearing; land dereliction, little efforts towards conservation and neglecting preservation mechanisms. Due to the variations in global distribution of biodiversity, man’s impact on land use has reduced the numbers to increasing lower levels.

It is with a sense of urgency that effective measures have to be implemented to limit and reduce the effects of negative land use for the sake of humanity and all live forms in the natural environment. With increased negativity towards the environmental use, loss of lives, extreme weather conditions, depletion of natural resources, arise from conflicts and mismanagement of available utilities will be a common practice. Various governments and unions should spearhead the enactment of policies aimed at governing and instituting conservation mechanisms, sustainable activities towards the environment and moral ethics for preservation of natural surroundings for the present and future generations.
