Hamlet Part II
There are many schemes and plots in Hamlet due to the revengeful nature of the characters. For example, Claudius kills Hamlet’s father who happens to be the king because he is eager to become the ruler. In addition, Hamlet devises creative ways such as making a play within the play to compel Claudius to confess to the murder. However, Claudius hatches a plan to kill Hamlet as well to prevent the leakage of the murder (Roberts and Zweig 27). Whereas Polonius tries to spy on Hamlet, the latter ends up killing him in a scheme he initiates. Thus, the conspiracies devised by Hamlet are well thought out and cautiously executed. Even though most of them are successful, he is left fatally wounded towards the end of the play.
Claudius and Laertes conspire to host a fencing match in which Laertes is to face off with Hamlet. Nevertheless, the former will be issued with a poisoned arrow to make it easier for him to kill Hamlet. Thus, the latter attends the fencing match because he would like to exert revenge for the death of his father and the refusal of Ophelia’s family to accept their union. Furthermore, he is no longer afraid to die and decides that he is better off dying with the honor of fighting for the honor of his country rather than in exile as a coward (Roberts and Zweig 76). Moreover, he views this contest as a chance of redeeming his image, self-esteem and social standing among other subjects. Similarly, he treats this opportunity as a forum for the truth to be known about his father’s murder so that people can rise against the current king, Claudius. Therefore, his presence is meant to illustrate courage in a move aimed at courting the support of the citizens.
