Question One

Gaming can be defined as playing online games from a personal computer. It is used to describe legal game activities that do not include wavering money. The word is thus often used when referring to online computer games. It derived from gambling despite the fact that there is no monetary garnered in wining online games. An example of online games includes a modification of ping-pong that is known as pong. The gamer uses specialized tools in gaming due to the recent advancements in this field.

Gambling can be described as a risk taking activity whereby bets are placed on a certain event with surety that the outcome will be positive or negative (Thompson 4). The important factor in gambling is winning the prize money or material possession that is usually the summation of the bets place by other contenders.

Question Two

Gaming entertainment revolves around the casino business. The entertainment industry also has a mutual relationship with the hospitality and tourism industry as most of the main casinos are constructed near luxury hotels, cruise ships and shopping malls that are strategic positions to attract both foreign and domestic tourists. The amenities provided by casinos involve various facilities and services within the building itself. These services are provided to suit the needs of the clientele. Using examples of major casinos, an outline of the various amenities offered by the casinos can be made.

The Casablanca Casino offers table games that range from Baccarat and Blackjack, Big Wheel, Rapid Sic Bo and Roulette. The Pagcor Mimosa Casino formerly known as the Regency Casino offers gaming amenities such as varied slot machines and table games while providing dining services where people can dine and listen to beautiful music. Fontana Casino offers a variety of games such as slot and video machine games that exceed a hundred in number. The games played include Baccarat, Roulette, Blackjack and Pai-Gow. It provides privacy for high clientele guests as it has one premium Player’s Pit and four VIP Rooms. Its unique feature is that it offers the use of two currencies, which is not the case with many other casinos.

There are also non-related gaming facilities that are offered by casino such as a casino bar. These bars provide refreshments for the customers while gambling. Some provide free drink bars, which allow customers to get as much juice, coffee and soft drinks as they can have while playing the games. The casino cafeteria is an essential amenity. It offers various cuisines from different cultures and saves on the hustle of having to get out of the casino to have a meal. These amenities are convenient as they cater to other needs of the customers.

The Foxwoods Resort offers the complete package for any gambling customer. It is located in Ledyard. It comprises six casinos. It is constructed on 440, 000sq meters, offering a wide range of beautiful forest scenery. The resort offers all sorts of gaming activities that suit its clientele including the slot and table games alongside Race Book, Poker amongst others. It has four unique hotels with exquisite furniture and facilities that are offered to ensure the client receive the ultimate Foxwoods experience. The mouth-watering cuisines prepared by professional excellent chefs are quite exotic. They also offer quick fix meals for clients who are too busy to have dinner in the ballroom. The resort also offers various entertainment facilities that complete the package. They show cast main events, which are graced by renowned music artists.

They also have a comedy show to amuse and keep the customers happy. Other amenities include a museum, a discotheque and a bowling arena. The resorts also has specialty shops, which are stocked with designer fashion and ornaments lines from designers such as Bulgari, Hugo Boss, Pandora  and Jared Lang amongst others. The beauty spas and therapeutic services offered by the resort provide relaxation for the clients after the gambling. The professionals in this field are extremely skilled and take relaxation to a completely new level.

Question Four

There has been a major attraction towards the gaming industry over the years as increased advancement is made towards ensuring all the clients’ needs are met. In an effort to attract potential clientele, most casinos have incorporated luxurious hotels as part of the strategy to increase customer pool (Thompson 10). These hotels have generated extra revenue for the casino business through the booking of rooms or guesthouses and proceeds generated from franchise arrangements, managerial contracts and vacation services and programs. The hotel business allows the casinos to maintain a steady number of clients during the low seasons.

Question Five

The largest casino in North America is Mohegan Sun that is located in Connecticut. It was opened in12th October 1996. It comprises of 302 table games and over 13600 video poker games and slot machines. Poker is the most common game played with 42 poker tables. The casino is opened through out with a self-parking service for clients. It owns a hotel that offers hospitality services to the casino customers. It also owns various cafeterias providing a wide range of exotic food from Italian to Mexican cuisine. There is a golf course known as the Mohegan Sun Country Club where golfers can go and enjoy the sport.

Question Six

The gaming industry offers great career opportunities and lucrative payment packages. Considering it is the major contributing industry in the American Economy, it is estimated to provide over one million jobs across the continent. The various careers offered are in three categories that are hospitality, casino management and security, and customer care. In the hospitality sector, various careers are available ranging from hotel management, room inspection, cooking, executive chefs, human resource management, director of food and beverages, among others.

There are also career opportunities offered within the casino. These include IT specialists, security officers, hostesses, dealers, floor managers and supervisors, customer care agents, and bartenders. The flexibility offered by the casinos allows employees to further their studies as they work (Thompson 25). Jobs undertaken by such workers include floor supervisor that is divided in shifts.

Question Seven

In my opinion, gambling should be taken as a source of entertainment that is done occasionally. The routine visit to the nearest casino on a daily basis forms the basis of addiction. Gambling is a pleasurable activity that should be handled by a disciplined individual who can resist the urge of gambling without feeling deprived.

Question Eight

The online gaming industry has experienced major pitfalls that result from the overnight existence of online casino who lack any physical proof of their existence. Online gamblers usually face a problem when demanding the payments owed to them after winnings, and because the casinos have no physical address it becomes quite problematic to pay the clients at the right time.

Another pitfall posed by the gambling industry is the ‘Gamblers Fallacy’. This fallacy is created by the prediction of future events based on the experiences (Thompson 54). This is observed when a gambler who has lost nearly all his money at the table fails to leave hoping that eventually he will get a chance to redeem himself and get his money back.

Question Nine

I hold the opinion that gambling is not bad as depicted by most people. It is an enjoyable activity. I would love to participate in it being that it tests the mental capability of making the right hypotheses in choosing cards or calling them out. The excitement displayed by the gamers in a gambling arena is quite exhilarating and pleasant at the same time.

Question Ten

The gambling industry demographics show that the largest number of casual gamblers are from upper and middle class socio-economic segment with most earning between than $35,000 and $ 100,000 yearly. Demographics on gender show that most gamblers are male and slightly older.

Question Eleven

Gambling can develop into an addiction thus leading to compulsive gambling. Such addiction is detrimental to all aspects of the addict’s life. It has negative impacts on the individual’s welfare, the family members and interaction with the outside world. Gambling becomes an addiction when a gambler becomes too addicted to a point of committing crimes in order to acquire money to fund this vice (Torr 35). The addiction can lead to family bankruptcy as the addict might choose the addiction over providing the necessities for the family members. This can lead to loss of homes and settling debts.

Family members are also affected with children being more vulnerable to depression caused by neglect from the parent and the inconsistent care from the parent. This might lead the child to abuse drugs and suffer from behavioral problems (Torr 41). Addiction affects how the addict relates to people around him. The constant arguments started due to the problems the family is going through due to the addiction might break the family and lead to divorce or separation between parents.
