Ethical Issues in Contracts
It is imperative for Christians to enter into contractual agreements. The passage in Matthew 5:37 mainly focus on vows and oaths. Accordingly, the verse states that “But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’, and your ‘No’, ‘No’. For whatever is more than these is from the evil one” (Matthew 5:37). Such agreements are significant because of the complexity that takes place in interactions among individuals. Currently, the modern society is comprised of contracts, lawyers, notaries, and binding signatures that establish truth as an objective certainty rather than just verbose. On the other hand, oaths and vows are difficult for Christians to satisfy. This is in relation to the fact that such utterances are particularly stern due to the limitations they impose on an individual. In this respect, Christians refuse to engage in a vow or an oath in a law court, a marriage observance, or another situation. Despite the restrictions associated with oaths and vows, such agreements were used to solve conflicts, seal contracts, or agreements, or merely to engage in the affirmation of truthful and imperative declarations. In such cases, the facet of grace is significant in resolving contractual disputes. Accordingly, the aspect of grace allows individuals to ignore the limitations established by written agreements. Since conflicts can occur in a straightforward manner, grace assumes a rather important role in furthering the objectives of written or verbal agreements. In fact, in modern times, the aspect of grace is more important due to the implications of technology on contractual agreements. Presently, the facet of technology has allowed businesses to be online. Hence, to ensure the validity of online business, agreements have become further modified in terms of special considerations. Hence, technology has enabled contractual agreements to span over formal requirements for purposes of protection.
