The assessment is in two parts. A 20-minute filmed
presentation to be submitted via KEATS, and a written script of the
presentation. I ONLY NEED THE WRITER TO DO THE WRITTEN REPORT PART,i
will finish the filmed presentation reading the written script from the
writer later by myself.
You have a choice of 2 questions, reading list will be provided,Answer only one question.
The approach you take in the film is up to you: you can film yourself
giving a classroom-style presentation, provide a spoken commentary on a
Powerpoint presentation, or create something quite different. Feel free
to include images, sound and audio-visual clips in your presentation to
illustrate your answer. Primarily you will be assessed on the content
of your presentation, your answer to the question set, but you will also
be assessed on the quality and clarity of the presentation. A flashy
presentation lacking in analytical substance and critical rigour will
not, however, be sufficient to achieve a good grade. You are expected
to include and interrogate theoretical and conceptual material, and
support your arguments with evidence and examples as you would for any
other academic assignment.
Your written script should be presented and fully referenced in the same
way as an essay or a dissertation, with in-text citations and a full
bibliography at the end. You do not need to read out your citations in
the voiceover of the presentation, but you will need to make it clear if
you are quoting someone or something, and ensure that all relevant
information is included in the written version. Please also include in
the written version information detailing the sources of any images,
audio, or audio-visual material that you include that you have not
generated yourself. Full details of how to properly cite audio-visual
sources are included in the departmental style guide.
QUESTIONS:
1. With reference to one or two case studies, critically assess the ways
in which power structures within the cultural and creative industries
shape cultural products.
2. According to Robert Warshow (1962), the setting for an American
western film is always about 1870, when in fact the western deftly
articulates the changing social, cultural and political concerns of the
times in which the particular film was made. Is this true? Support your
answer with examples and from the relevant cultural theories of
representation.
