Comparison and Contrast
Nowadays, people marry when they are much older, and some of them choose not to marry at all. This is because of different reasons, which include careers and changes in society’s perception concerning marriage. Women no longer see marriage as a necessity and some of them have chosen to advance their careers before getting married. They have more freedom of choice, and many of them no longer conform to society’s standards. Previously married people have chosen to become single because of reasons like divorce or the death of their partner. As this paper highlights, there are some differences and similarities between single and married people.
Single people have more freedom in the choices they make in life, unlike married people. They do not have to consult anyone before making a decision. Conversely, married people have to consult each other when making any decision, such as where to go for holidays or the type of furniture to purchase. Single people also have more liberty in the way they choose to manage their time. They can spend their time as they wish since they are not accountable to anybody. Married people are accountable to one another. They have to set aside time to spend together. Someone who is married cannot just decide to spend countless days wherever he wants without consulting his or her partner. The levels of responsibilities between the two groups differ.
Married people tend to have additional responsibilities compared to single people. In many cases, married people have children, and have to exercise responsibilities. Even in cases where married couples do not have children, they are still responsible for each other. This is in contrast to single people, who live as they want. They can go anywhere, meet up with anyone, and invite whomever they want to their place. They have few responsibilities, and this determines the way they spend their money. Many married couples choose to make money decisions together. They agree on the payment of bills as well as on other expenses.
Both positions in life require a certain level of responsibility. Married and single people realize that every decision they make in life has consequences. Whether a person is married or single, he or she has to work to survive. Both married and single people need money for survival. They need to pay for their daily expenses and bills, as well as any luxuries. They are also responsible for the life decisions they make. For instance, people take care of their health, and this does not depend on whether a person is single or married.
Both married and single people have social lives and can experience loneliness. They have friends and relatives who they can depend on. Married people spend time away from each other to be with their friends. Both groups of people can experience a certain degree of loneliness. This can happen to married couples who do not communicate with each other frequently, who have different social lives, and who place their work and careers above their marriage. They may live in the same house, but rarely spend any time together. Single people can experience loneliness, especially if they do not have many friends, or if their acquaintances are always busy with work.
