Being a College Student

Entering college was one of my most important goals in life. I worked hard to ensure that I was able to do this. I knew that college would be the stepping-stone to a great future. I want to be successful when I grow up, to be a role model for my younger siblings, and to mentor others. College will help me achieve all these goals and more. I want to be an inspiration to other people. I can only do this if I manage to graduate from college through hard work. I want to show people that small beginnings do not matter so long as one has a dream. My parents always told me that many got many opportunities when he went to college. Education opens many doors through the qualifications that one gets and the networking opportunities that people get. I wanted to realize all this and I wanted to have fun as well.

I entered college when I graduated from high school. It was a proud moment for me. At one point, my parents thought that I would never finish high school because I never took education seriously. I always prioritized other things and learning seemed to be the last thing on my mind. However, I studied hard during my last year of high school. I wanted to improve my scores and increase my chances of getting to college. I participated in many community activities and I know that this would reflect well on my papers. However, before my last year in high school, my academic papers had not been impressive. I resolved to change this situation and I decided to work harder on my studies.

My main motivation for being in college is that I want to influence people’s lives positively. I want to change people’s lives for the better (College View). Many people lack opportunities and this dictates the kind of life they will lead. Many of them do not have the same chances I do and this means that they will have a challenging time trying to change their lives for the better. I believe that if all children in the country had the same opportunities, then they would have the same chances of success. This is my main motivation for entering college in the first place and for choosing my course. It is a way to influence people’s minds and fill them with constructive and positive thoughts. It also opens up many opportunities and it guarantees a person of a better future (Leonhardt)

I have changed my attitude towards learning since I left high school. I used to go to school because it was something that everyone else did. I thought that I would please my parents when I went to school. I also thought that it was a requirement under the law to go to school. However, I have changed my concept of education. As I became older, I realized the value and importance of education. It was important for me to acquire knowledge and change my life. This new attitude informed my decision to study hard. I became more interested in learning. I did not just focus on the materials that the teacher presented to class. I became more interested in other areas of learning. I even began going to the library regularly.

I have several strengths, which have been of great benefit in my life. I am a sociable person and I get along with others very well. I like other people’s company. I cooperate well with others and I am able to work well in teams. I believe that I am a good leader because I am able to realize the strengths that other people have. I encourage and motivate people. I make them believe that they can be anything they want to be and that they can do anything if they set their minds to it. This makes it easy for me to make and keep friends.

Despite these strengths, I suffer from a short temper and I tend to be an impatient person in many situations. I do not have the patience to deal with people who are different from me. I think that this is mostly because I expect people to have the same abilities I do. My friends understand this side of me and they have learnt to accept my weaknesses. On the other hand, I always try to improve on these weaknesses. Over the last year, I have seen tremendous change. I no longer get angry so quickly and I have learnt to accept other people irrespective of their weaknesses. My friends have helped me through this.

I plan to work with the same momentum I had in my last year of high school. I no longer study to please my parents. I have set academic and career goals and I plan to achieve them. I plan to graduate with first class honors after my studies in college. I also aspire to get a chance to work in a good learning institution. However, my life goal is to help those who are less privileged in the society. The first experience I get after leaving college will be important in helping me to realize my life goals. I realize the journey ahead of me and I know the importance of working with others. I want to achieve my life’s dreams by enabling a less privileged child to have the same opportunities I have had.
