1. What is the main research question of the article?

The research question in the article is whether work has any effect on the offender. The researcher aims at identifying whether offenders can claim to have a turning point when they start working.

2. Explain the research method that the researchers use to study the question

The author uses qualitative research by analyzing data. The information he uses is contained in the national supported work demonstration project. It contains data from about 3,000 people who include criminal offenders, youth dropouts, and the hardcore drug abusers. .

3. What are the primary results of the research?

The results indicate that age is a key factor in determining whether work is a turning point for offenders. Offenders who are over the age of 26 are less likely to re-offend once they are employed, irrespective of the job they get. This suggests that older criminals can change if they get employment opportunities.

4. If you were to conduct your own study of the same topic, what method would you use?

I would examine recent official data covering the rates of recidivism in the country. I would focus on a particular region, such as a city, and examine the data available there. I would examine data focusing on any rehabilitation program intended to help those who are out of prison. I would include both the juvenile and adult criminal offenders. I would then select a sample, which would then enable me to conduct interviews. The interview process would help in validating data from official records. It would help me to identify whether there are any discrepancies in terms of the figures reported. The interview process would include people who have been released from prison and are already in employment. I will seek to identify if their employment has had any changes in them. I would then interview those who have re-offended despite getting a job. This would enable me to identify why employment did not cause the turnaround they expected.
