Answer Two
Question One
Plato’s argument in the allegory was quite convincing. He was able to illustrate the way people’s perceptions were shaped by what they assumed was reality even though it was not. Strength of the allegory is its ability to explain the origin of imperfections in the universe. It is also effective as it urges people to desist from being satisfied with things at face value. In other words, it promotes an inquisitive nature. Its major weakness is that it fails to assert Plato’s theory. It is also very subjective depending on the perspective of the viewer.
Question Two
Plato proposes that by understanding the true nature of reality, an individual s in a position to make an informed decision based on the truth rather than a figment of it. An obvious drawback is that the enlightened individual will have an advantage over other people and can exploit them. It is also costly since one faces opposition from uneducated people who resist the pursuit of truth.
Question Three
The allegory of the cave is a dialogue between Glaucon and Socrates. In the dialogue, Socrates describes a group of people who were bound in a cave. The only form of reality they witnessed were shadows of events outside cast on the wall in front of them. Consequently, they named all the shadows. It would be necessary for such a person (philosopher) to leave the cave and perceive the true form of reality rather than its mere “shadows”. The persuasion style was logos since Plato used logic to conclude that leaving the cave would result in perceiving the true world.
Question Four
Advertisements show the perfect situation that is initiated by purchasing a product or service. It is designed to create a false perception in the mind of the buyer. Visual reality can be considered virtual and temporary since it is made up of incomplete facts.
