Analysis of Completion of Course Goals

Writing a publication requires consideration of several aspects such as strength, structure and flow of ideas. Most of these aspects are interrelated and serve to enrich the quality of a project. An analysis of the extent of meeting course goals is an important for all written publication. This is because through such an analysis, several issues can be discovered and rectified before the project can be completed. Some of these issues include an assessment of the methods of critical thinking such as breadth, clarity and depth, the level of audience awareness and synthesis of the project. The writer did not manage to capture all the essential elements of a standard publication and contributed toward lowering the quality of the project.

Analysis of Rhetorical Effectiveness (Persuasiveness)

In the essay titled Why Education Should Be Free for Everyone, the author chose a proper introduction that was very convincing and informative. The author started by outlining the importance of education by going into the history of its development. His introduction was also enriched with a thesis statement that was insufficient as it failed to capture the essence of the whole essay. The author focused mostly on the history of education without considering the rest of the elements that would elaborate on the free benefits of education. The topic of the essay required a persuasive analysis of why education should be free. However, the paper was above average in persuasiveness.

Rhetorical analysis involves the examination and evaluation of a piece of literary material with the intent of pointing out their effectiveness, qualities and weaknesses. The author made good use of the different materials at his disposal to ensure that the depth of the paper was achieved. In the analysis of the state of education in the United States, the author carefully analyzed all the existing aspects and then proposed how making education free would alleviate or improve on some of these issues. While the overall condition of the paper was already above average, the author used different methods of rhetoric analysis to come up with an elaborate and complete essay.

            In writing the essay, the author was careful to consider the main audience in performing his rhetorical analysis. Since the main audience would be academic peers, supervisors and other instructors, the level of language and terminology was advanced. The level of research was also elaborate and fitting for the audience it was intended. The author also achieved the purpose of the paper. It was intended to be an argumentative essay that took one side and this exactly what the author delivered in the essay.

Audience awareness

            Considering the achievement of the goal of audience awareness in the essay, the following observations can be made. The writer made proper and liberal use of in text citations and references within the essay. Most of the content that had been quoted from other academic material such as journals, magazines, books and other dissertations were regularly cited within the paper. Citation is important as it adds legitimacy to the paper and gives it an academic authority. However, the citation of several journal articles was somewhat disorganized and failed the standard formats of APA and MLA. In the paragraph addressing the issue of sufficient human resource facilities in the United States, the author used a wrong citation format and inserted APA citations instead of MLA.

In assessing the assertion of a position by the author, the following conclusions were made. The author clearly delivered their position concerning the essay topic. His description of the provision of free education services for all children was succinct and direct as he maintained that it should be provided free of charge. The author even provided several reasons that supported his stand and supported his arguments with relevant citations. Instead of simply providing the necessary information an argument on free education, the author successfully delivered additional information that enriched the reader’s opinions on the issue. It can be concluded that concerning the position of the author, this goal was met satisfactorily.

The author was able to meet the goal of using different models of argumentation. In the particular essay, the author made extensive use of the classical model of argumentation in a manner that brought out the advantage of making education a free service. In the paper, the author pointed out several problems that would be solved through offering free education.

Critical Thinking

This is undoubtedly the most significant part of the essay. The author was expected to realize several critical thinking goals. The research efforts in the paper were excellent as the author made use of several primary and secondary sources. This was not completely achieved as the essay lacked a high standard of critical thinking that was befitting the academic audience that would review the paper. The flow of ideas in the essay was also somewhat mixed up with the standard arrangement of an argumentative essay being ignored. In this goal, the author did not meet the required expectations satisfactorily

Conclusion

The argumentative essay that deliberated on the significance of offering free education services was above average in nearly all aspects. The usage of several research tools, critical thinking devices and high levels of rhetorical awareness were the strong points. However, the poor citation and referencing was a weakness that, if improved, could increase the quality of the paper.
