In Search of Our Mothers’ Gardens

            Alice Walker is determined to use reflection in ensuring the communicated ensembles by her heroes from the past to speak of the civil rights movement. For example, she states that Mrs. Windson Hudson would enable the explanation of the agitation in her community. In addition, she states that the agitation was in part not for the hero as an individual but a collective form in the country. Alice Walker also deliberates on the figurative representation of her ideas through equality and the suffering evidenced by the women. It offers significant understanding especially with the literal use of stylistic devices in the poetry.

Seventeen Syllables

            Hisaye Yamamoto uses bilingual representation in order to speak of the struggles faced by women and children who are immigrants into the United States. For example, through combination of fiction and thematic expressions, she illuminates the cultural differences experienced by the Japanese American women in trying to integrate from their culture to that of Americans. The struggle is then witnessed through traditional Japanese poetry and literal forms as means of delivery by the women as they were accustomed. She also uses imagery in trying to convince the critical differences between the two cultures especially with the enforced law of dispersion.

Good Country People

            Flannery O’Connor is masterful in using irony and controlled comic sense to explain the disgrace in fall of human nature. For example, she uses an ugly name for one of the main characters in order to depict the so-called ugliness in her personality as a reflection on human nature. Humanity had been crippled especially with delivery of sin in the Christian teachings as shown by eve in the Garden of Eden. Thus, the making of Hulga’s self-identity is a characteristic use of the author to deliver the hypocritical love and disgust in equal measure. It is followed by the believed form of purity.
