Transnational Motherhood
The government has a responsibility of ensuring fair treatment to all its workers. This is irrespective of whether the workers are citizens of a country. Failing to do so would be encouraging abuse of some workers. Many transnational mothers come to the country legally and they are able to get work permits. Overworking the domestic workers by denying them time off and working them day and night constitutes a form of abuse. Having policies governing the treatment of the workers will ensure that they get fair pay and that they have good working terms and conditions. This will make it possible for the domestic workers to spend time with their children. Some nannies and housekeepers are able to bring their children to the country but they do not get the chance to spend time with them because of the extensive work demands. Establishing fair work policies and enforcing them will enable such workers to have extra time to be with their families. This will reduce the need of the domestic workers looking for cheap caregivers to take care of their children when they work.
Transnational
mothers do not have to experience the loss of missing a large portion of their
children’s lives. If they made up their mind, they could go to their countries
and still be able to provide for their children. This requires making a goal to
save money to start a business and a new life in their country. By making the
decision to go back, they will be able to set achievable goals. They can save
money by reducing the amount they send back home. Having a long-term goal will
give them a vision, which they can work hard towards fulfilling. Alternatively,
won can decide to delay having children if they have plans of going abroad.
They can start families after they have become established financially. This
will prevent them from experiencing any loss they feel since they will have
their children close to them.
