Positive Effects of Anger in Human Beings
Anger can be described as an emotion that is displayed when an individual has interpreted that they have been wronged, denied or offended. Anger is usually a retaliatory behavior towards any or all of the above causative factors. Physically, anger could have effects such as high blood pressure, increased heart rates and other mental impacts. Normally, anger is associated with a plethora of negative consequences. However, anger can also have effects on human beings. Anger is an excellent activation or mobilization element especially within corporate settings. When an individual is angry, they are motivated to do something about the cause of their anger.
I am always triggered to increase my sessions at the gym when someone angers me by making fun of my body weight. The mockery triggers me into being angry, and this helps in the achievement my physical fitness targets. When an embarrassing situation befalls an individual, they become angry because of it and attempt to do something to avoid future episodes. Anger can also be useful in achieving results within a group setting. When someone becomes angry, people become aware of the severity of the situation and react accordingly to rectify the situation. Likewise, anger also intimidates any individuals as they are directly confronted with the worst in their colleagues. At the workplace, I have realized that productivity levels are slightly higher when our employer expresses anger over the waste and inefficiency among the employees. The employer uses his anger in a positive way to rekindle the motivation levels and productivity among the employees by expressing his displeasure over the manner in which tasks are completed. By becoming angry, he communicates a side of him that is thorough, strict and merciless, and this behavior keeps employees focused on doing their best during work hours. Therefore, anger can be used as a unique motivational tool in the workplace.
Anger within human beings can also have the positive effect of earning respect among colleagues, family members and peers. When someone becomes angry, the people around him interpret the anger as a sign of independence. The individual is seen as someone who can stand up for his or her beliefs and would not let anyone take advantage of their situation. Depending on the context and manner in which the anger is expressed, most people can perceive it as an assertive, confident and independent character. In my community, the police chief is a calm and polite man. However, when compromising or difficult situations present themselves, he easily becomes angry when illegal or unconventional proposals are made. From these anger episodes, I have always come to perceive the chief of police as a confident and assertive man.
Anger has a bad reputation mainly because it is wrongly associated with violence. Most of the anger episodes are usually accompanied by aggression. However, positive or constructive anger can serve as an appropriate reconciliation tool especially if it is applied in the presence of both parties. When one party has wronged the other, being angry can help in expressing the level of annoyance without causing any physical or emotional harm. In expressing the anger, the person causing it can easily apologize, in the process, ending the disagreement, and reconciling. My parents are always extremely angry whenever I stay out late or keep the company of corrupt friends. By being angry at my choices or behavior, it is relatively easy for me to apologize for placing myself in an unsafe situation and end the differences between us. In conclusion, anger has several positive effects such as reconciling relationships, realizing expected results and mobilizing individuals.
