The three photographic chosen discoveries in this case are Annie Leibovitz in Portrait photography, John Shaw in Nature photography and Dave Black in the sports category. In portrait photography, it is obvious that capturing the image is more about having the ability to tell a story of the person in the photograph. In most cases, it expresses emotion and the composition should balance elements to make the key feature, the person standout (Johnston, 2011, p. 21). This is the same in the sports photographs because the idea is to capture the emotion of the athlete, as well as, the passion when participating in the activity. The nature photography however is unique because it captures the least common aspects of nature that are unique and probably unseen before. The essence in this photographic style is to entertain and educate on the beauty of what is unseen among other things
b)
Industrial revolution refers to a time when people were coming up with inventions and transitioning to new manufacturing processes (Johnston, 2011, p. 23). The camera and therefore photography fits in this setting because the ability to save precious memories was problematic at the time and even though there were cameras in existence, they could take up to eight hours to have them processed but the invention of a Frenchman changed all this. The ability to take instant photographs today therefore indicates that this invention qualifies in the group.
Looking at Annie Leibovitz, it is evident that she tells her story with the aim of showing that an artist’s life is all about expression, interest and personal satisfaction (Faris-Belt, 2011, p 12) .She is authentic as a photographer because she does not struggle so hard but stands out anyway without appearing mediocre. In many reviews, people identify her work as one that lacks imagination and rigor but in the museum, her exhibition is above average (Faris-Belt, 2011, p 13). This free spirit and individuality is the reason why I chose her.
She differs greatly from Dave Black in the sports category, which is more sophisticated and has great expertise. As a teacher and an author, his work has the ability to capture moments in great speed and action and make them appear effortless. In addition, most of his work is in the outdoors and this makes him talented and patient especially when it comes to capturing the lights and angles of a photograph as well as, the raw emotions of the sports person.
