Many people rarely think of how much they depend on something until that thing is taken from them. This is the case in the TV series Revolution. People today do not realize how much they have become dependent on electricity for everything. The series shows the changes that occur when there is a global blackout. Many events are disrupted and people have to change their way of life. They have to adjust and learn how to live in a world that does not have power. This leads to many unexpected changes including violence, political instability, and disorganization of social life.

The blackout caused the collapse of the government. This had the effect of creating the militia, which ruled in some places. The country was divided into various factions, each serving its own interests. There are various presidents including the president of the Georgia federation and Texas. The militia leads the Monroe republic, and the rebels oppose the militia. The different groups are opposed to each other. The country is no longer one. The militia executes people for owning the American flag. This not only shows division, but it also shows intense and immense hatred between some of the groups. The government of the federation works with the rebels because they are opposed to the militia. The military force increases their strength and they maintain law and order in the country.

There is much violence in the region as all the groups seek to retain or increase their power and authority. Each region has its own laws even though many of the places in each area are close to each other. The level of violence increases as the groups develop stronger and more effective weaponry. The militia opposes, tortures, and kills those who want to restore the former United States to its glory. One person is executed because of possessing an American flag. Moreover, people seem to kill for any reason and some do it for self-defense. They resolve their differences in violence since they cannot depend on any justice system. For instance, Charlie is asked to assassinate someone because that person burnt down some fields. Although the attack does not go as planned, it shows the extent to which people are willing to go to protect their lives and property.

The social life of people change following the blackout. People are forced to change their jobs in order to survive. People hunt and farm for their foods. They no longer depend on white-collar jobs, as is the case today. Technology has come to a standstill and people no longer communicate with ease as they used to before the blackout. In some cases, people have gone back to the earlier times when there was no electricity. For instance, since there is no electricity to power the trains, people have to depend on steam ships for their travel. Families are separated from each other because of wars and violence.

The blackout causes many things to change. After watching the series, it is clear that people have become dependent on electricity for many things. The presence of a blackout causes confusion and it leads to wars, divisions, and violence. It makes people readjust their lives and they have to adapt to the changes they encounters. Their lives are disrupted and the governments lose control over some of the land. The situation is no longer what it used to be, and it is not clear that life will return to the way it was before the blackout.
