Reflection Paper

1. I guess the most important insight I gained from the recording was the ability to think over issues that are not business-oriented in a way that will affect me in future. For instance, I never thought much about the contributions I can make to the community. The questions that intrigued me the most had to be those oriented towards the society.
2. I had to go beneath the surface when answering many of the questions. This was especially the case with the questions concerning self and social awareness. I was honest when making the tape and I made several discoveries, especially about the way I feel on certain issues such as race and sexual orientation. I was comfortable with all the topics and I feel that they challenged me to go beneath what I usually presume to what I deeply believe. Some of the thoughts flowed easily but I was hesitant with others. While questions on self-awareness were easy to answer, I had to think deeply about questions concerning multicultural community building
3. I think that the most difficult questions to answer had to do with community and social justice. I am not familiar with the field and I had to think much about how future professionals will affect social inequality.
4. The language I use may affect the way I understand the concept of service. Service may mean diverse things to different people based on their areas of influence. Language is dependent on many things including nationality, religion, culture, and profession. A person working in business and another working in the nonprofit sector will have a different understanding of service.
5. The issues that I feel I have the most knowledge on concern self and social awareness and those regarding the contributions I intend to make to the society. The issues I know least about concern social justice. This is because I have not had much exposure in the area
6. I am most likely to change my perceptions on multicultural community building and social group identities. I am least likely to change those concerning the community
7. Has business professionals made any positive contributions to the society? How has capitalism, as the most understood concept of business, contributed to social inequality? Why have some communities been unable to advance and progress economically despite the availability of resources?
