Reflection of Mark 14-16
Last Supper
In the chapter 14 of Mark, the consolidation of the last supper between Jesus and his disciples was significant for Christianity and salvation. At the table, he took out the bread and declared it was His body while the cup was His blood, which was the mark of salvation of man. The last supper depicts the union of God as being with man. Despite His divinity, power, and Holiness, God through Jesus is aware of human life, needs, circumstances, and requirements. Therefore, by Jesus symbolizing His body and blood, Christians have to endorse salvation in order to be unified with God. Christians have to partake of Body and blood in order to be like Him. He is the redeemer and lives amongst the Christians. In addition, it should be a regular and habitual occurrence in drawing from Him, the almighty.
At the last supper, Jesus talked of His betrayal and impending crucifixion. He stated that it would be carried out by one of His own disciples. At the mention of the betrayal, the disciples were in denial, including Peter who was told of hid eminent denial in knowing Him before other men. Christians should remember the significance on the prophesied betrayal especially from close quarters. The fact that one of His disciples carried out the act and another denied Him should be a lesson to the believers. In the test of faith and salvation, Christians are expected to face challenges in all manners for forms from external and internal; sources. As evidence by Christ, He still had to fulfill Hi mandate of salivation. Subsequently, Christians should not be deterred in their quest for the light.
Crucifixion
In mark chapter 15, the synopsis of the events leading to His crucifixion are described in detail. Of significance is the manner in which he was handled by the Jews before Pilate and at the cross. Without any wrongdoing, He was persecuted, whipped, mocked, and offered for crucifixion in place of Barabbas. As Christians, they should reflect on human nature in the development of Christ’s path to salvation. There is an element of doubt in the presence and importance of God in life. For the Jews to accuse of Christ on His blasphemy vehemently despite His mission and the work He did while on earth, humans have similar capacity in lives struggles. Therefore, Christians should seek the solace and redemption of God in order to cure of our wrongs. The nature of doubt should be transformed through prayer and constant reference to His word and promises.
At the cross, the Jews were vocal and significantly used all manner of ways in mocking Christ as He faced the pain and struggle of crucifixion. Some even went to the lengths of expressing Jesus’ statement on destroying the temple and rebuilding it in three days. They did not realize the hidden message concerning the three days. In addition, they referred to his claim as the messiah in a way to facilitate Him save Himself. They chanted they He should have save Himself other than His previous works of saving sinful souls. The above did not deter Christ from fulfilling His mission despite the circumstances. Christians are supposed to inculcate the lesson on humility and patience in order to achieve God’s kingdom. Objection, rejection, and ridicule will be faced along the way, but the reward at the end is of utmost importance.
Resurrection
The resurrection of Jesus Christ as depicted in Mark chapter 16 lays the foundation of atonement, which is the most important of all lessons to Christians and salvation. The detail on the tombs presence, the angel at the entrance when the women went to view His body reflects on the whole presence of Christ on earth. Atonement is the foundation of the Christian faith through eternity. Christians should reflect on its significance as it marked the payment of sin through Christ’s sacrifice and union between man and God. Atonement is the reconciliation of man to His creator as it s entrenched through the love that He had for humans. By giving His only begotten son, Christians should change their ways in order to match the demands required of them through their living and belief.
By Christ’s death, resurrection, and ascension into heaven, Christians should be challenged on the success gained in acquiring eternal life and moral perfection to some extent. As depicted by the left cloth and utterances of the angel, Jesus succeeded where Adam had failed from the beginning. Due to Adam and Eve’s failure, there was sin and the distance between man and God was enhanced. Therefore, the sacrifice of Christ was symbolic and necessary due to God’s love and honest intentions of enabling the re-union. In addition, the resurrection provides Christians the basis of truth and confirmation that indeed God is true to His word a well as His existence. All the chains of sin and earthly ways were dismantled and therefore, harmony through acceptance and righteous living with the creator was made possible for all who took it.
