Reflection

From the start of the class, I have attained considerable experience particularly in relation to the process of writing. For a large number of people, writing comprises a complicated activity due to the presence of different aspects that must undergo inclusion to ensure that appeal on the part of the reader. Despite the knowledge that I possess presently, it is hard to forget the effort that I have implemented in order to become good at this process. Personally, expression via writing has always been difficult. Nevertheless, with the help of the instructor and significant practice, I became proficient in the task. Since the beginning of the class, I can boldly state that I have exhibited improvement in particular areas of writing such as the evaluation of arguments and the inclusion of sources despite facing challenges in the integration of in-text citations.

One imperative skill that I gained while taking part in writing comprised the integration of sources that I utilized within every paper I wrote. Before this, I was completely unaware of the importance that literary resources imposed within research writing and other types of compositions. Usually, the integration of sources enables the author to establish an appealing claim through logical appeal. Therefore, sources play a significant responsibility in the writing process. However, prior to the attainment of such information, several papers that I wrote failed to observe the inclusion of the resources that I used. Therefore, even in conditions whereby the claims I asserted were considerably persuasive, failure to include sources rendered the respective arguments as simple opinions and subjective claims. Moreover, failing to acknowledge the sources’ significance such as peer-reviewed journals and other scholarly sources exposed my claims to partiality and bias.

Another important aptitude that I gained while taking part in the writing process comprises the assessment of arguments. To create a sturdy claim, it is imperative for the writer to contemplate certain aspects. For most cases, such dimensions tend to gain reference as rhetorical appeals. Prior to gaining awareness of the importance that these aspects assume, much of my literary work possessed claims that were particularly unappealing. Without the inclusion of these elements, it was impractical to establish a concise and sturdy claim without exposing it to considerable analysis or criticism. Therefore, awareness of these dimensions began assuming an imperative yet secondary role in understanding the significance of incorporating sources within any form of literary composition. In addition to this, the comprehension of appeals as literary devices has evolved into a supplementary benefit specifically in obligations that constitute the criticism or assessment of claims declared by notable writers.

To this end, the class in English has been significantly helpful in improving my skills and aptitudes in the activity of writing. Before participating in the class, I was not attentive to the writing process and the significant role it posed in respect to every assignment I did. As a result, participating in the course during the first stages of the class was hard and troublesome. Contrary to past knowledge regarding writing, the English class enabled me to come to the realization that writing is complicated than it seems. For example, in situations whereby I possessed a correct or practical idea or argument, it was hard for me to engage in proper self-expression through the respective process. Therefore, I engaged in considerable levels of practice within the field and improved my literary skills as evidenced by my achievements in the incorporation of sources and the evaluation of claims through awareness of appeals.
