Obesity is a Matter of Personal Responsibility
My topic concerns obesity and personal responsibility. My main reason for selecting this topic is to raise awareness concerning obesity and to inform others that it is possible to attain a healthy weight by disciplining oneself on matters concerning diet and nutrition. Obesity is a major cause of several health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease (Mokdad et al. 77). People with obesity are often imprisoned because they are restricted from doing what they would want if they had a choice. They have a low self-esteem and this affects their confidence (Hesketh, Wake and Waters 1234). Many of them find it hard to socialize and make friends because they are ashamed and they cannot fit in most social groups. I have seen how this condition can be detrimental to people’s lives and this has compelled me to research more about it. if people become more responsible concerning what they eat and how much they exercise, they can be able to maintain a healthy weight.
I can use several
sources from databases dealing with diet, nutrition, and health. Numerous
health publications and scientific journals have studied the topic of obesity
extensively. Some of the journals include the American Journal of Clinical
Nutrition, American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine, Journal of Health
Psychology, Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law, The Journal of Law,
Medicine & Ethics, and Obesity Reviews among others. They have focused on
different groups such as teenagers, children, women, and older adults among
others. They have looked at several issues such as the factors that have led to
increased obesity rates in the country and the effects of obesity on
individuals and families. In addition, marketing journals can provide more
information as they seek to determine the effect of food marketing and
advertising on obesity trends in the country. Accessing government websites
such as centers for diseases control and prevention will provide the necessary
and credible statistics.
