Question a

The article on hip-hop culture identifies the classification means used by the population in comparison to the African Americans, their artistry of the music genre and the representation of their ideals and social aspect of cultures and way of lives. The article on homeland and immigration of the Latino population into America identifies the struggles that the immigrants underwent, their migration traditions, the view of the natives upon settlement and consequences of being absorbed into the culture and nationalism. Both articles make direct references to the general Latino population and various effects of their presence in the country. The personal attributes are discussed, experiences, lessons learnt and the mentality surrounding their presence.

The common points from both texts that connect with each other rest on the Latino population. Both articles identify that the Latino population are not natives of the country and that their origin was marked with migration into the nation state. The articles realize that there is a contrast in the cultures of the natives as compared to other immigrants like the African Americans, the Latino population and other minority communities in the diversified nation. The articles look at the struggles of the immigrants in their quest to gain settlement. The objectification against women by the male counterparts is a common practice through the beliefs, practices and expressions of the different ways of life. There is a marked difference in comparison to the natives on matters of treatment and opinions in matters affecting cultures.

Through my educational history, it is worth to note the importance of the sources as describing the Puerto Ricans as part of the Latino population. This causes a difference in the ethno racial representation of this group of immigrants. Through the music mainstream of the hip-hop genre, the Puerto Ricans have had a difficult time in trying to express themselves. This is quite evident in New York State’s presentation of the music’s realm. Hip-hop is widely regarded as the African American mainstay of normal expression. For the Latino artistes, their categorization against the dominant notion of the blacks cannot be understated. The creative participation of the Puerto Ricans is severely affected by the race, ethnicity and class experiences. Their presence during the formative periods of the music genre gives them importance in latinization process as instituted in the urban setting.

             Hip-hop culture and song writing, performance and representation were regarded as an expressive form of urbanity at the time. Minority communities, headed by the African Americans used the music platform to vent out their oppressions, struggles and difficulties in obtaining equal rights and freedoms in the society. the differences in socioeconomic dimensions, institutions of labor dynamics, discrimination and oppression through forceful labor was a key factor in galvanizing of the new wave of several immigrants early on in the nineteenth century. Bothe the Puerto Ricans and Africans belonged to the marginalized and class exclusion standards. They were both portrayed negatively through media and literature, face brutality from law officers, suffered unemployment and underemployment. The former’s misrepresentation of being either black or white created a new racial frontier. A new wave was realized from the dispositions and social spaces conditions.

            The use of explicit forms of language in the voicing of ethnorocial concerns by the blacks increased the popularity of rap artists as being African American. A common feature of the genre’s style was evident in the use of explicit statements, rhymes and samples. Rap music used manifested approaches in articulation of blackness in its message delivery. Nationalist sentiments of blacks were commonly used in the late 80s and early 90s. Free styling was a mainstay of the second and third generation of the artistic origins. Artistic production and identity was used to reproduce notions of solidarity and experience. Transformations of the hip-hop culture were realized with several alterations of the artistes according to the acceptance from the public and delivery styles. Slang and use of hidden meanings was utilized to conceal the purpose of controversial issues and outbursts.

            Apart from the use of music as a platform for expression on the societal indifferences, hip-hop marked the objectification of the female population according to sexuality. This was widely celebrated in the acceptance and use by the audiences of the minority communities. Reference of the different body parts that seemed to stimulate the arousal of the male population were welcome into the culture and general ways of life of the people. At times comparisons were made to seemingly enjoyed foods, fruits, attractive images and subtle expressions. The Latino fetish was vibrant, just as the blacks coined their own form of objectification. The different communities had representation on the issues of objectification including the Asians, Europeans and other ethnicities. Exotic beauty was praised in equal measures in the different cultures, while the subservience and imputed silence was acknowledged.

            Lessons learnt from the articles impose the struggles suffered by the immigrants. The natives of the country had negative imagery of the immigrants. This was varied from being seen as queer, troublemakers, half-breed to being the forbidden population. The trespassers were not allowed into the country, they would be maimed, shot, gassed, raped or strangled. The accepted individuals had to have power and be in solidarity with the natives who were predominantly white. Migration into the United States had been evidenced from decades ago. Some were legal while others were not. The common reasons associated with the migrations included the need for new settlement areas and availability of fertile areas for economic upheaval. Part of the ancient wars was significant of the forceful takeovers of land fro neighboring countries and seizing of strategic conquests.    

            The learning experience from the articles is dependant on the cultures and lifestyles depicted by the representative communities. Immigrants into the country were clearly mistreated and oppressed. The minority communities in the nation suffered the same abuses during a period of discrimination, police brutality, unemployment and unfair socio economic class divisions. The diversity of the different communities helped unite the communities in fighting for rights and equal justice. The use of music was enabled easier expressions of emotions as concerns the struggles that the communities faced. Objectification of the female body became a sensation in reference to the sexuality and expletives gained from specific genres, music styles and reception by the audiences. Immigration into the country was marked by struggles and at times loss of lives. The women were worst hit especially with the facilitators taking advantage of their weaknesses.
