How the Aspect of Femininity is taking over the Workplace

Overtime, the workplace has always been viewed as a masculine environment. Most of the processes and procedures that take place tend to embody the subliminal aspects that define men. One example of this involves the form of communication that occurs within the workplace setting. Accordingly, employees engage in a declarative form of interaction, which is more inclined towards the way men communicate with one another in official as well as informal settings (Schieman and Reid 281). Nevertheless, the aspect of femininity has become rather prevalent in the recent organizational context. With gratitude to regulations and social norms that now accept women as much as men within the formal environment, femininity is now apparent in numerous organizations. A particular element that I encountered as an example involves the sharing of personal information. While working as an intern, the head of the department that I was working for called my fellow employees and me for a meeting. Once we were gathered, she asked us about our personal lives and encouraged us to be as open as possible. For me, I had never encountered this experience. Usually, the workplace setting is seen as an impartial and formal environment (Schieman and Reid 284). Hence, it is uncommon for people to engage in personal or sentimental activities. Based on this event, I learnt that the relevance of the meeting involved establishing a trustworthy relationship within the workplace. One of the qualities of a good leader involves a high amount of emotional intelligence and consequently, an ability to illustrate empathy towards subordinates (Chin 67). For most masculine environments, such qualities tend to be absent. However, the impact of femininity has created a platform for empathy among leaders and a chance for employees to be trustful and open to their peers.
