They are able to apply such knowledge with respect to individual understanding and in the process engaging in interactions with other students and the instructor. Hands on learning facilities eliminate bureaucracies inherent in classrooms and provide an effective platform for social interactions and exchange of ideas for students (Birks, and Hunt 17). They are able to gains skills and knowledge that would be effective in eliminating barriers of communication because they are able to ask questions and solve problems individual or in groups.

Group activity is also another advantage, which is associated with a hands-on learning approach. Students are able to engage in communication with one another during team activities and in the process, they become assimilated into their respective peer groups (Birks, and Hunt 29). The impotence of hands on learning is the opportunity for ESL students to gain first hand experiences in terms of making accurate definition of items, procedures and gaining an understanding of technical aspects of an engineering program.

In addition, the opportunity for social interactions is deemed as integral in enabling ESL students to gain fluency and understanding of terms used in conversations in their respective engineering fields or occupations. This is important in providing them with skills and knowledge on how to respond and engage other individuals effectively which can be applied in their future careers.
