Food Labels

Part 1

My experience with food labels is limited due to the acclimatized culture of purchasing the food in demand as opposed to the nutritive value it has to the body systems. The confusion on the usage of food labels is the explanation and science behind the confusing breakdown of the figures. Respective nutritive elements listed on one side at least help in understanding the contents. I do not use them on any regular basis as I depend on the information received through media regarding any foods, whether healthy or not.   

Part 2

The main advantage in the guiding stars’ indication of the food labels is relevance to the simplest understanding. For example, by simply listing the more of and less of each food component, the user is able to make sound judgment on the food to purchase and consume. The main disadvantage with stop and shop tag program on food samples is the limited explanation on the food composition. The tag program only emphasizes on the limitations provided in the respective foods without indicating to the consumer on the healthy benefits. It produces a discriminatory angle. 

Part 3

The FDA announced on the proposed changes and overhaul of the label designs. One of the proposal points to a requirement in the declaration of the percentage daily value on the labels (U.S Food and Drug Administration 1). In the second proposal, the agency has mandated on the current footnote of the facts label affecting nutrition. The changes are meant to accomplish the significance detailing of the nutritive value especially on the facts and value in the respective composition intake. The new label will try to encourage a little more consideration on the specifics of nutritive additives to foods for the people. The sensitive populace will be in particular attention of the changes.
