Long has it been evident that majority of children in the education system do not either consume the recommended diet rations or engage in adequate levels of physical exercises on a daily basis. This lack of institutional conformance has been a contributing factor to the growing number of overweight children in the society. Childhood professionals in partnership with parents need to design, structure and implement appropriate nutrition plans for children to facilitate learning. Conformance to nutrition standards, guidelines, and national initiatives allows teaching practices to capture this level of quality learning environment (Story and Nanney 81). Through these standards, teaching practices understand and incorporate the required meals and physical activities suitable for a child in accordance to his or her age. In essence, the nutrition requirement for a toddler is not the same for a teenager meaning teaching practices for the two are divergent. Nutrition standards help teaching practices include strategies that prevent obesity while improving the overall development of a young student.

Nutrition information within the early childhood setting can be employed to plan menus, structure health education lessons, and develop parent education programs. Application of the information has the objective of establishing a safe nutrition environment for the child at school and home in order to facilitate growth. For instance, through the data, preschool teachers incorporate the texture, flavor, and smell of fruits to teach on good foods for students (Hyson and Tomlinson 2). It is common to find kindergarten children drawing and coloring fruits in their learning of color and meals. School administrators and parents understand the type of meals to give across different age groups in order to meet daily energy requirements of the growing students.
