Communication Diversity
Mark, Ellis J., Human Resource Manager Esmark Plastics Limited. Telephone interview, 24, August 2016.
The telephone interview I had with Mark, the Human Resource manager of a pipe manufacturing company sheds extensive light on the effects that communication may have on performance of an organization. The issues covered in the interview cover extensive factors such as diverse cultural communication and leadership communication. Evidently, communication studies are intended to provide people with the desired expertise of how to approach issues related to interaction and relationships. Mark shares his experience as he began working for the company highlighting various instances where colleagues and subordinates lack effective communication skills that are required to handle the job (Mark, August 24, 2016). Furthermore, Mark identifies situations where aspiring employees have failed to display the desired communication styles and skills qualifying them viable for the job position under consideration. During the telephone interview, Mark seems to display disappointment in the current education system that fails to intensify and sensitize on the importance of developing communication skills in people that will render them better and successful. The scope in communication diversity surpasses the organizational setting and extends to the societal, political and psychological sector. The interview concludes as Mark offers insight on how to ensure improved communication in the workplace that will translate to business performance.
Although the interview concentrates on the importance of communication effectiveness in the organization, Mark incorporates external elements that are prone to the effect of poor communication skills. It offers a reality check to all disciplines that without communication skills, it is impossible to achieve to the desired extent. In the interview, Mark uses an instance where he had to deal with incompetent subordinates alleging that one worker violated the culture of the colleague (Mark, August 24, 2016). Considering the diversity of their language, Mark notes that he had to level the ground by using a common language that both workers understood. The credibility of the interview may be considered viable since it takes into account the personal experiences of Mark in a managerial position. Mark offers his honest opinion on the impact communication has on organizations, which may suffice as a credible source while evaluating the scope of communication issues. The information Mark relays is objective as it covers diverse issues not necessarily pertaining the management sector. Therefore, this interview is descriptive, well researched and timely.
The
interview with Mark confirmed the presence of communication issues that are
propelled by diversity in most organizations. It is important to understand
that developing communication skills will prove futile at scales that may be
undetermined. Most people ignore the relevance of communication arguing that it
is the core task of the managers. However, minor communication issues may not
necessarily require the input of the managers and superiors as it takes
implementing simple communication skills. As people progress to pursue new and
foreign avenues such as job opportunities, understanding that failure to
communicate in the desired manner may cost their success. This is evident from
the experiences shared by Mark in the interview. Initially, my perception
regarding communication was limited to the common levels, which included
interaction and developing relationships. However, this interview has shed
light on related communicational issues such as barriers to effective communication,
which will be effective in the future. It has relayed the reasons why other elements
of the community such as the political sector, education sector, societal
sector and psychological areas are connected and how ineffective communication may
cause a failure in such sectors.
